During the day, some. Enough to blur the view from outside. Not enough to hide you at night when the lights are on. That’s the trade-off with anything this thin. For bedrooms or ground-floor windows, layer with blackout behind. For a high-floor lounge or a balcony door, chiffon alone works fine.
Cold water, gentle cycle, mesh laundry bag. That’s it. Pull them out damp and hang them straight back up. They dry on the rail in a couple of hours. No dryer. Chiffon is thin. Heat will wrinkle it in ways you can’t iron out easily.
Polyester chiffon handles it well. Most of ours are polyester for that reason. Silk chiffon fades faster and costs more to replace. We default to polyester unless you ask otherwise. On a west-facing window, we add a UV lining behind the chiffon layer to stretch its life further.
